Beatrice D’Ippolito, Associate Editor

Beatrice D’Ippolito is Chair in Strategic Management and Innovation. Her research focuses on the emergence and development of mechanisms of knowledge creation and diffusion that connect the micro level of firm dynamics with the meso level of industry evolution. She conducted extensive qualitative and archival research within organisations of small to large sizes across different sectors.
Throughout her career, Professor D’Ippolito’s has developed interest in how inter-firm collaborations may yield innovation and constitute source of growth. She has conducted research on this subject across different empirical contexts, including the design-intensive furniture sectors in Italy, a range of large-scale research infrastructures based within the French GIANT campus, Grenoble, and the new energy technologies firms belonging to the French Tenerrdis cluster, Rhone-Alpes.
Currently, Professor D’Ippolito is working on a wide array of projects that relate to, among others, the role of design in shaping firms’ strategy-making, the way organisations embrace the potential of digital technologies with a focus on creative industries, and the nature and dynamics of the processes that characterise business model innovation.
Professor D’Ippolito’s research has been published in top-tier innovation and strategy journals such as Research Policy, Long Range Planning, Industry and Innovation, Technovation, and International Journal of Management Reviews. She sits on the Editorial Advisory Board of Research Policy and Industry and Innovation and is Associate Editor at the Journal of Management Studies. She is willing to supervise PhD candidates in the areas of design and innovation management, including but not limited to the role that digital technologies play in the organisation and management of firms.

Paolo Aversa, Associate Editor

Paolo Aversa, is Professor of Strategy at King’s Business School, King’s College London, and Adjunct Professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
His research focuses on innovation and the evolution of industries and ecosystems, concentrating on technology-intensive settings to explore radical innovations, digital transformation and business models. He is globally considered the leading academic expert in the motorsport and Formula 1 industry, as well as one of the main voices in the use of sports data for management theory.
He serves as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Management Studies, on the editorial board of Organization Science and Academy of Management Discoveries, for which he is also a guest editor. He is in the leadership of the STR and TIM divisions of the Academy of Management. He features regularly in international media including Financial Times, BBC, and CNBC. Among other awards, he received the Knighthood of the Star of Italy for his research and impact.
