Rosario Sorrentino is a Biomedical Engineer at the Italian Ministry of Health, Directorate-General for Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals (IVD Office), with experience in EU regulatory frameworks and in supporting the governance of medical devices and digital health. He serves as delegate of the Directorate-General in the NIS 2 sectoral working group on cybersecurity of medical devices and in vitro diagnostics, contributing to the implementation of Directive (EU) 2022/2555 in the healthcare sector. He has been designated as national expert in a European Commission Task Force, contributing to Union-level risk assessment activities on connected medical devices, and is a member of the Scientific Committee for Research and Training (CURF) of the Italian Society of Hospital Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services of Healthcare Authorities (SIFO) for the 2024–2028 term. Since 2021, he has been involved in regulatory and evaluation activities under Regulation (EU) 2017/746 (IVDR), focusing on designation and surveillance of notified bodies and the assessment of performance study applications, within EU regulatory frameworks. He is a member of the Medical Device Coordination Group (MDCG) subgroups Notified Bodies Oversight (NBO) and Clinical Investigation and Evaluation / Performance Studies. He previously gained experience in healthcare ICT and telemedicine at ASST Bergamo Ovest, and contributed to the digital transformation of public procurement in healthcare at So.Re.Sa. S.p.A., focusing on e-procurement and system integration. He holds an International Second-Level Specialized Master’s Degree in Management in Clinical Engineering from the University of Trieste and is author and co-author of peer-reviewed publications on artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Fabio De Paolis is a senior executive (Dirigente) within the Campania Regional Administration in Italy, serving in the Special Office for Digital Administration, where he leads the Cybersecurity Office and is responsible for the regional Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT). He oversees cybersecurity governance, as well as the regional Data Center infrastructure and Security Operations Center (SOC), ensuring the resilience and protection of critical ICT systems supporting essential public services, with a strong focus on healthcare.
Alongside his cybersecurity role, he is a healthcare executive and public policy expert with extensive experience in healthcare management, institutional relations, and regional health system innovation. He contributes to the development of strategic initiatives aimed at improving healthcare governance, sustainability, and patient-centered services, promoting integration between digital technologies and healthcare delivery. He also leads major programs in cloud modernization, cybersecurity, and digital transformation under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), fostering collaboration between public institutions, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to drive innovation and efficiency in the regional healthcare ecosystem.
